We recently purchased a couple of Digium IAXy's for our evaluation.
For those of you unaware, the IAXy is a FXS device made by Digium, with one 10/100 Ethernet port and one RJ11 analog phone port. The IAXy communicates exclusively with the Asterisk Open Source PBX. This device would most commonly be used for adapting your existing analog phone or phones into a VoIP phone.
The first thing that struck me about the IAXy was the size. It's an itty bitty thing. It could easily be stored in a laptop bag without noticing.
Installation couldn't have been easier. I configured the IAXy using the iaxyprov tool provided by Digium. Once I did that, the IAXy immediately contacted my Asterisk server and I was able to place and receive calls after I setup the proer dial plans.
Unfortunately, one of the two IAXy's was defective. The little plastic RJ11 socket was deformed and would not hold the plug. Digium immediately replaced it and the new united performed as expected.
So far.. there's been no issues, and I've had them both running for a couple of weeks. The IAXy is definitely a great option for someone who needs a single FXS device and don't want to fiddle with installing PCI cards. The IAXy runs around $99.. give or take. I purchased mine from the Digium Yahoo Store.
